If you’re in the mood for romance, the mountains are calling. Rugged and elegant in one attractive package, Utah’s Wasatch Mountains rise boldly in the state’s southeastern corner and provide the perfect playground for all manner of alpine-inspired activity. The area’s topography combined with favorable western weather patterns creates an incubator for snow, and lots of it. Utah gained its reputation from the white stuff and no less than 500 inches of fluffy powder descends on legendary ski resorts Alta and Snowbird. The Greatest Snow on Earth is here and it attracts throngs of skiers and boarders and other lovers of winter to rejoice in its downy magic.
Summer is equally dreamy; with radiant blue skies beaming above alpine meadows chock full of rainbow colored flowers. Clear, cool mountain streams burble through aromatic pine forests and if you stop and listen you can hear their stories. Best of all, this wonderful place is inspiration to write your own stories and make life list memories, and Snowpine Lodge brings it all together.
High Altitude Romance
Snowpine Lodge is perched at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon and is Alta’s first marquee luxury resort. Snowpine first welcomed guests in early 2019 and immediately struck a chord by offering the finest in lodging, dining, conference facilities, and romantic accoutrements. Indeed, the entire lodge feels alive with luxurious but welcoming patina; the ideal mountain base camp for an unforgettable romantic experience.
It all starts before you even walk through the doors. Snowpine rests on the same site as Alta’s original lodging establishment, born in 1941 in the midst of the region’s heady mining era days. Before becoming a place of rest and rejuvenation and a destination for visitors from afar; the lodge’s much younger, 1800s self was the oldest around and proudly served as Alta’s post office, makeshift army barracks, and general store.
Alta was a rough and tumble mining community through and through; filled with hardy, grungy souls who worked hard, scraped by, and lived life with verve up high. In a gradual transformation, Alta’s vibe changed as the grungy miners moved on and grungy skiers moved in. A handful of bare bones lodges sprouted in the area, run by families steeped in mountain lineage, and guests could hit the slopes at the new ski area with a $4.50 lift ticket. Today’s Snowpine Lodge carries on Alta’s proud history while setting the stage with every ingredient for a getaway filled to the brim with romance.
Rugged Meets Luxury
One step into the rooms at Snowpine is all it takes. Perks including cloud-soft bedding, plush robes, flat-screen TVs, and mini-bars are part of the setting and upper tier rooms come complete with balconies treating guests to otherworldly views of the canyon. All of this is just a short walk from the ski lifts and in close contact to Alta’s palpable town vibe.
Continue your perfect getaway with a fine dinner at Swen’s Restaurant, serving regionally sourced fare with floor-to-ceiling windows and private tables. At more casual chapters of your trip, head to the Gulch Pub for burgers and craft brews.
If romance brings you here in winter, there’s nothing better after an exhilarating day on the slopes than a massage or spa treatment. The Stillwell Spa boasts everything you need to relax including an indoor grotto, sauna, yoga studio, and oxygen bar. A fill lineup of fitness equipment is also available if you’re in the mood to recharge. Unwind or fire up—it’s all here
Not into skiing? Summer months are extraordinary at Snowpine and tailor made for romance. Those of active mind can explore a spaghetti tangle of trails laced around the mountains for hiking, mountain biking, or horseback rides. If you and yours are in a more casual mood, the quiet streams and secluded aspen groves provide the perfect backdrop to cozy up.
